On Sunday 15th February, Newborough Young Farmers Club held their 3rd annual ploughing match. Clear blue skies and a marvellous site by kind permission of D.C Godfrey and Belmont Farms made for excellent ploughing conditions.
67 tractors took part in the day ranging from a Fordson Model N to a Cat Challenger, and there were varying classes from Vintage Trailed to the most up to date tractors and ploughs in the Commercial Reversible Class. Not forgetting the Fun ploughing for the less serious ploughman. With thanks to Mike Stevenson and Dave Franciosy (Farming photography) for capturing the spectacular event.
A Bale Rolling competition, which was run between the end of the ploughing and the prize giving, was successful entertainment, which was won by Huntingdon YFC.
Entrants came from as far away as Leicester, Raunds and Holbeach to take part. Chandlers won the demonstrator’s class with a Valtra, and Brian Knight of Knight Farm Machinery won the Ray Benstead Memorial Cup for the Champion Ploughman.
The Newborough Young Farmers provided refreshments, while Moor Farm Shop provided good local hot food and for the sweeter tooth cupcakes by Baked With Love were also available all day.
By 5.30pm the two fields had been ploughed and finished off bringing the day to a close. The event was a once again a memorable day and a great success, with a donation of £1,000.00 from the funds raised being donated to Cancer Research UK.
We would like to thank all volunteers, supporters for their part in the day and we look forward to seeing you all again next year. See our wonderful pictures on our Gallery page.
